Nintendo, during the presentation of its earnings results for the third quarter of its financial year 2024revealed that its Switch console has sold out almost 140 million units (to be precise 139.36 million). It is, therefore, the third best-selling console ever, preceded only by PlayStation 2 (155 million units sold) and from Nintendo DS (stops at 154). The data relating to games sold are also impressive: 1,200 million games.

These results take on even more relevance especially if we consider that the console, unlike the others, has been since launch did not suffer any cut in the selling price. In fact, the only exception in this sense was represented by a small cut in Europe – from 329.99 euros to 299.99 euros – in order to align prices between markets before the launch of the OLED model. Furthermore, again unlike the competition, Nintendo Switch has not even benefited from major updates.

After all, the Switch Lite it was exclusively a cheaper version of the console.

Therefore, the wait for the new generation, especially considering the success achieved by the first generation, is increasingly higher. In this sense, the Brazilian gaming journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe released a video claiming to have received information from five sources that Nintendo might launch the Switch 2 in the first quarter of 2025. Still in this regard, it would appear that the company was planning to launch a new system at the end of 2024, however an internal delay would have caused the postponement to the beginning of the following year.

To date, it is not known what titles will be available for Nintendo Switch 2 at launch. In any case, some rumors have suggested the hypothesis of the availability of Metroid Prime 4, a 3D Mario game and more.
