The Discord app updates on Android and iOS: better performance and easier use

From today, for both Android and iOS users, the new application of Discord. The announcement was made directly by Francesco Polizzi of Discord, who highlighted how the goal of the new design is to simplify the experience on mobile devicesfirst of all by avoiding overloading the app with features present in the desktop version.

In particular, in the new app users will be able to view their servers in the sidebar, but this is not the only interface. In fact, the servers are present in a dedicated tab in the app, with a lower bar that will grant access to three other sections:

  • Messages: here are all the direct messages or smaller groups created with other Discord users. Among other things, there is also a search function.
  • Notifications: all the mentions, friend requests and much more are collected here;
  • You: this is the section that includes your profile with the related settings for the username, profile picture and friends list.

The new app is therefore smaller and faster.

Specifically, on Android it opens faster by 55%, while on iOS by 43%. Furthermore, a particularly notable aspect is the implementation of the “Midnight” theme, totally black on OLED screens. Finally, Discord’s Polizzi said: “It’s a new interface designed for the touchscreen that fits in your pocket. It’s a faster, more reliable app than before, with new features that help you and your friends chat and have fun on the go, like texting voicemails and a free file upload limit of 25MB”.
