Facebook has not resolved yesterday’s downturn: failed logins, no double authentication and password reset for many users

“And we’re back!”: thus begins the post published yesterday by Facebook on Nothing transcendental, except that social networks are now so much a part of our lives that such a disservice has affected all channels, social and otherwise, in the world.

It’s a shame that the downturn hasn’t been completely resolved by Facebook technicians, even if it isn’t officially declared by Meta. Yesterday, in the article dedicated to the disservice, we reported how to MetaStatusMeta’s official portal where any interruptions to services linked to the ecosystem are reported in almost real time, if there was a report of “Major Disruption” relating to Facebook Login formwhich is what deals with accepting users’ credentials to approve their access to the social network.

Today, again on MetaStatus, we clearly read that the problem linked to the login has been resolved by the technicians:

We have recovered from an earlier outage impacting Facebook Login, and services have now been restored. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused.

We have resolved the previous outage affecting Facebook Login, and services have been restored. We apologize for any inconvenience that the outage may have caused.

But is everything really solved?

The answer is no, and there are many users who complain about it right under the post about X published by Facebook.

To be honest we are also experiencing the same problem, a problem linked to both double authentication and the possible reset of the password. Let’s proceed step by step.

As for the Double authenticationif you have activated it, to access Facebook you will not only need the password, but you will also need a confirmation SMS to receive on the telephone number you indicated during activation.

Since yesterday the confirmation SMS have not arrivedand unfortunately, by trying several times after hours, after a while you will find yourself faced with the following error message:

We limit the number of times you can request security codes in a given period of time. We have established this limit to protect your safety. To help you sign in to your account, learn more or try again later.

Then, with yesterday’s disservice, many found themselves having to re-enter the password to access the social network. It’s a shame that many people don’t remember it (that’s why it’s a good idea to use a password manager). Nothing serious, just reset your password! Too bad that at the moment not even that option works properly.

And mind you, the problem here is not just those who use their Facebook account to post memes about kittens or to frequent Facebook groups and follow their passions.

There are people who use Facebook for work, to manage commercial businesses, advertising campaigns and other similar activities, people who have been cut off from their profiles for hours and hours. Like this user on Twitter, who is spending money on advertising campaigns that he would have gladly blocked if only he had access to the account:

What to do?

Unfortunately, all that remains is to wait. There’s no point in insisting with SMS or resetting your password: At the moment everything is blocked, even if Meta has not confirmed this anywhere. To be honest, double authentication has never worked very well, but those are details. We will try to keep you updated on this. As we mentioned, we too are currently cut off from Facebook on some devices, precisely because we are unable to receive the double authentication SMS. Let us know in the comments if you are experiencing the same problems.
