iOS 17.4 brings some great news for Apple Podcasts

A few hours ago Apple released iOS 17.4, the new version of the popular iPhone operating system, with interesting news that also concerns Apple’s adaptation to the DMA which is about to come into force in the European Union. Among the new features introduced we also find a new functionality for Apple Podcasts.

The popular podcast-specific audio streaming service (here’s our guide to creating successful podcasts) has received the feature that allows you to automatic transcription of audio content.

The news we just mentioned arrives for the Apple Podcasts app. Transcripts will come generated automatically And loaded alongside each piece of content immediately after its publication on the platform. Apple will also generate transcripts for all content already present on its platform.

Transcripts for Apple Podcasts also offer the ability to carry out the search via keywords or set of terms. This is obviously a significant innovation that puts Apple Podcasts on the same level as other rival serviceslike Spotify for example.

Apple also mentioned the aspect that could be worrying different podcast creators, that is the inaccuracy of the transcriptions. To remedy this potential problem, Apple reported that all those who wish upload your own transcripts they can do this via RSS tags or in Apple Podcasts Connect. It will also be possible to download the transcript generated automatically by Apple and modify it and then reload it associated with the created content.

Apple reportedly developed the feature with consideration the accessibility aspectpaying particular attention to the font, in terms of size and color, to facilitate easy reading and understanding, especially for those who suffer from hearing problems.

As of today March 6, the transcripts are available for English, French, Spanish, and German podcasts on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4. We expect that they will arrive later in Italian too.
