Over the last few years, Android has made huge strides in the context of safety and of privacy. We have seen this especially with the latest versions of the green robot, such as with Android 14 for example.

But that doesn’t mean Android users should let their guard down when it comes to security. Even today some malware can escape Google’s built-in controls. And precisely regarding this eventuality, some have arrived alarming details from security researchers at MacAfee.

These have in fact identified a particularly aggressive malware with a code name Xamalicious. It is a malware that, once accessibility permissions have been obtained, aims to do so steal personal data of users.

And why should the accessibility permit to malware? Just the malware in question hides inside an app apparently unknown. This is exactly what happened for several apps on the Play Store.

Indeed it seems that the apps that contained the malware were downloaded together more than 300,000 times. Here are the offending apps:

  • Essential Horoscope for Android – 100,000 installs
  • 3D Skin Editor for PE Minecraft – 100,000 installs

  • ego Maker Pro – 100,000 installs uto Click Repeater – 10,000 installs

The apps in question were obviously removed from the Google Play Store. For those who have already installed one of the apps listed, then it will be necessary proceed with uninstallation as soon as possible.
