Driving by car in Madrid in 2024: thanks to this website I have saved several fines

This week I ran into a big problem. Having to use my car to attend an event in the center of Madrid. Taking into account that, as you already know, the regulations regarding pollution in the capital have changed in 2024, I have had all the doubts: Can my car park on the street if I go to this area? If I have tag B, what are my restrictions?

Since 2020, the capital has implemented a Low Emissions Zone (ZBE) that limits the access and circulation of vehicles inside the M-30, with the aim of improving air quality and public health and precisely this year restrictions are being “intensified.”

Specifically, and, returning to the topic that I have a B badge, the situation begins to get complicated, so, by investigating, I was able to know, first, that there are two zones in particular and that my car is limited to parking on the street in the Zones. of Special Protection Low Emissions, the so-called ZBEDEP and which, however, has no problem if I enter the Low Emissions Zone in Madrid (ZBE).

To be specific, in the case of Madrid, the ZBE covers the interior of the M-30, including the M-30 itself. The ZBEDEP, for its part, is an area within the previous one that corresponds to the Central District of Madrid. As you can see, there is also a second ZBEDEP in Plaza Elíptica that, reading the restrictions they provide, I also have free circulation.

The problem, Once you know all this, it is whether or not that street you are going to enters the zone or includes some type of restriction.

In my case it is Avenida Alfonso A complete mess and in the end it didn’t end up clearing me up.

However, I found a website that, without going any further, is from the same Community of Madrid. Madrid 360 has, among many other things, with a small section that allows you, on the one hand, to find out the restrictions of your car by indicating either your badge or your license plate and, on the other, by simply entering the street you are looking for, you will be able to know which area it is included in..

Looking at the map, first I already know that, although it is located within the ZBE, as indicated, it is outside the ZBEDEP, so, having previously seen the restrictions related to my label B, I would have no problem If I want to park on the street.

This may seem silly, but a few months ago I was fined for simply driving my car to Gran Vía, ZBEDEP area, and leaving the car in a double line for two minutes while my companion picked up an order. Getting ahead of these problems, the truth is that it can save you large fines.

At the moment, The penalties reach 200 euros, 100 in the case of prompt payment, so a single moment can cost you dearly.. Imagine if you don’t realize it and park for a long period of time.

Mention that the Madrid 360 website not only helps you avoid these unnecessary expenses, but also offers you very useful information about:

  • Air quality in Madrid: you can check real-time data on air quality in different parts of the city because yes, regulations change in very specific cases, so always be very careful.
  • Public transport: the website offers you information about the different public transport options available in Madrid, including rates, schedules and routes.
  • Sustainable mobility: it also informs you about the different alternatives to move around the city, such as using a bicycle or electric scooter.

The truth is that searching the Internet and the Play Store to find an application or website that has the exact location and where it is located with respect to the ZBE, this is the only one I have found. Of course, Madrid 360 also has an app, but it is true that if you want to make a momentary query, I find it unnecessary to download it..
