New update for Kodi Nexus: the stable version needs some bugfixes

Here comes a new update For Kodi, the popular platform for managing multimedia streaming (we also remind you of our guide on how Kodi works). The Nexus version has just received yet another update.

The newly introduced update for Kodi Nexus (we also remind you of our guide on how to install Kodi, if you are interested in trying it) refers to version 20.5. This is an unexpected update, given that the stable version of Kodi Nexus has been released for a few weeks now. Apparently some other bugfixes it was necessary.

In fact, according to what was published in the changelog, most of the settings for the controller management input on Kodi. In fact, with version 20.4, released a few weeks ago, some problems have emerged significant problems in this sense, especially on Android devices. With this new update all the settings for the controllers that were present in the version 20.3.

Again with regards to Android, a feature has been introduced for the improved audio streaming directly from Kodi Omega, the next version of Kodi which is currently in beta.

Other small fixes, mostly aimed at the graphical interface, have also been introduced for the Linux version and for them iOS / tvOS platforms. If you are interested in the technical details, we refer you to complete changelog which you find below.

Input

  • Reverted a number of controller changes that caused massive failures on Android devices. Input handling will now be the same as what was available in 20.3.

Platform Specific

  • Android

    • Some great detective work was done by @spdfrk for a fix that meant Kodi would close the app during potential color mode changes.
    • A backport by @fritsch that intends to bring Nexus inline with Omega behavior for AudioTrack on Android. This means that some device users will need to add an extra setting to them AdvancedSettings.xml file. Details can be seen at https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/24729.
  • Linux

    • Branding colors have been added to the metainfo file so that they can be used by things like the Flathub store. Info about this can be seen at the Flathub blog post https://docs.flathub.org/blog/introducing-app-brand-colors/.
  • iOS/tvOS

    • A change that wasn’t actually in Kodi’s codebase, but a fix nonetheless, means that the inputstream.ffmpegdirect addon is now available to the iOS/tvOS release debs
