Gmail notifications are no longer red

We don’t know if it’s intentional behavior or a bug, but after the latest update the notification icon Of Gmail in the notifications drop-down menu Android he lost the canon Red (do you know how to request a read receipt on Gmail?).

Just to better frame the “problem”, if you can define it that way, when you receive an email to your address set on Gmail, the notification that appears in the notifications drawer of a phone Android show a preview of the message, the subject and the icon of Gmail, notoriously in the red (read also: how to log out of just one Gmail account).

Following of the update Gmail number 2023.11.26.x, however, the icon is no longer red (image below on the left), but a light blue color, at least with the dark theme (image below right).

Why do we assume this is a bug? For two valid reasons. The first is that already a June this year the same situation occurred, which was then corrected by Google within a week.

The second is that the color of the icon does not reflect the dynamic color system, but it only changes slightly depending on whether you set a light theme or a dark theme.

As you can see below, in fact, with the light theme the icon changes to one blue tone flashes, but changing the system color does not change.

It must also be said that last week Google had a couple of problemswho revealed themselves with a obvious delay in email delivery. Google quickly fixed the bug, releasing a note stating that the system message processing is responsible for delivering, tracking, queuing and receiving emails.

Both accidents were caused by a atypical traffic emails, resulting in high usage of resources in this system and delivery delays. To remedy this, Google is implementing mechanisms that take advantage of this better resourcesand even if these problems are not related to this situation, it is not impossible to assume that the developers are also working on the Android app.

Nonetheless, returning to our icon of notificationwe cannot rule out for sure that Google has not decided to change the color and which later introduces an icon that follows the theme through Dynamic Colorbut it certainly would be a Sin. The answer will probably arrive in the next few days, in case a new update arrives that restores the original function.
