Is Xiaomi 14 a camera phone? DxOMark isn’t convinced
Xiaomi 14 has passed into the hands of DxOMarkthe French team that has been testing smartphone cameras for years (here are the best camera phones of the moment) to tell us how they shoot and how they record videos.
The final result for the “minor” top of the range from Xiaomi It wasn’t particularly exciting. In fact, we see a total score of 138 pointswith which Xiaomi 14 ranks at 28th place of the general classification. The fact that the device is positioned below Pixel 7, launched more than a year ago, and is 10 points below Google’s Pixel 8 certainly makes you think.
Going to see the partials, we see how Xiaomi 14 recorded the best scores in the phase video recordingand when zooming, probably thanks to the dedicated sensor from 50 megapixels equipped with optical image stabilization.
Going into detail of the tests carried out by DxOMark, we see how the device he behaved well in terms of exposure management, white balance, detail preservation.
This also happened in zoom mode, using the telephoto which stood out positively.
What though did not convince DxOMark were the backlight performances, especially in terms of contrast rendering. Between weaknesses of the Xiaomi 14 camera we also find problems adapting to changes in brightness during video recording, and numerous artifacts when shooting in most environmental conditions.
In short, Xiaomi 14 showed some level photographic performances in an absolute sense, perhaps not up to expectations considering that it is part of the new series of top of the range Xiaomi, a company that focuses a lot on the photographic experience also through the partnership with Leica.
