Goodbye Google Bard, welcome Gemini: the Pro for everyone, you pay for Advanced, and the smartphone app…

Google Bard, the company’s chatbot, becomes from today Gemini, in a move that surprised no one. After all, Bard was the entry point for Google’s AI models, and Gemini is the most advanced of these models. But the change in name is perhaps the least important news of all those announced today by Google.

Table of Contents

So let’s see what’s new in the world of artificial intelligence, and what concerns us directly, because unfortunately not everything is available in Italy too.

Gemini Pro comes for everyone

The Gemini model is available in three versions: that basicthe Pro and the Ultra, which we will talk about shortly. From today Gemini Pro is the default model used in over 40 languages, Italian includedand 230 countries, so that more and more people can access it and experience its capabilities.

Likewise it is now available in Italy and Italian also another very important function, namely the verification of the results.

Clicking on the “G” icon at the bottom of a Gemini result will highlight parts of the response text, so that by clicking on it you can see from which source that content was taken, and perhaps visit it to learn more.

Unfortunately however, it is not available in our country the creation of images, which remains present only in English, but not in Italy. We hope that this limit will also be removed soon.

You can try the new Gemini Pro on gemini.google.com to which you will also be redirected by trying to type the previous bard.google.com.

Gemini Advanced on the other hand costs…

With the practically global launch of Gemini Pro, Google has also revealed Gemini Advanced, based on the Gemini Ultra linguistic model, which as its name suggests is the most advanced of all; and obviously it’s not free.

To access Gemini Advanced you can subscribe to Google One with the appropriate plan, costing €21.99 per month (the first 2 months are free), but be careful because it is currently supported only English as input language.

Gemini Advanced is able to create step-by-step instructions, carry on conversations, program, create content, analyze current trends and actually enhance the creative abilities of its users. In short, it is the state of the art of chatbots based on generative AI.

Gemini for Android and iPhone

From today Gemini also arrives in the form of apps for Android and iPhone, but with some important differences between the two.

On Androidwith prior consent, Gemini effectively replaces Google Assistantso that Gemini can help you based on what you’re doing, such as generating the caption for a photo you just took or giving you information linked to an article you’re reading in your browser.

Many of the Assistant functions remain, such as the ability to interact with the phone’s functions (settings, calls, music, timer, smart home, etc.), and new ones will also arrive in the future.

On iOS you will have to open the Google app to access Gemini, and the level of interaction with the system is clearly limited compared to the Android counterpart.

However, there is a but: neither of these two apps is available in Italy. The release starts today but only in English And only in the United States, and it will also be a gradual release, which will take a few weeks to complete. Starting next week it will be available in more places in English, Japanese and Korean, with other countries and languages arriving later.
