Electric air taxis are getting closer: the green light arrives from Europe
In the future of mobility there are also electric air taxis, what are technically known as electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. This type of vehicle has just received the green light in Europe.
As shared by Volocopter, the company that actually develops and produces the eVTOLThe German government approved an extension of the authorization to produce such vehicles on its territory. This will allow the company to organize the production of its VoloCity eVTOL air taxis in Germany.
This type of aircraft has already demonstrated its capabilities overseas, where it carried out a series of short flights in New York demonstration flights.
Now things could speed up also for Europe. In fact, the company was chosen to provide fully electric air taxi services during the Paris Olympic Games next summer, despite strong opposition from some parts of the French government.
The extension of the approval just received by Volocopter in Germany provides for the possibility of extend production from the prototype one to that one in seriestherefore compatible with industrial and commercial applications.
Volocopter aircraft are certified by European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to fly over congested urban areas. This means that the electric air taxi service is ever closer.
