Apple surprise launches iOS 17.3.1 to correct a bug in the iPhone and no, it is not security

apple has released a series of updates to software for your devices, including iOS 17.3.1, watchOS 10.3.1, and macOS 14.3.1. These updates, which have arrived by surprise, do seek to put an end to a small bug that affected iPhone, Apple watch and Mac users.

The most recent update of all of them, iOS 17.3.1, focuses on bug fixes, with particular attention to an issue that caused text to suddenly duplicate or overlap when typing.

It has been confirmed that this update does not contain security patchesaccording to Apple’s security communications website, so its arrival would have been solely and exclusively to resolve this bug.

The updates to watchOS 10.3.1 and macOS 14.3.1 have also followed the line of general bug fixes this week, without major changes in features. For example, in macOS 14.3.1, the main inclusion in iOS 17.3 was stolen device protection.

This is how you can install this iOS update

Your iPhone will most likely notify you about the update and ask you to install it. You can also do it by following these steps:

  • Open Settings.
  • Click on General.
  • Go to Software Update.
  • You’ll see the update appear, tap Download and install —or Install now if your iPhone has already downloaded it.
  • You will need to enter your password and your iPhone will reboot after iOS 17.3.1 is downloaded and installed.

This update arrives just before, unless they release some more bug fixes, the anticipated launch of iOS 17.4, which is scheduled for March, and which promises new features and big changes in the ecosystem with that opening in the App Store due to the DMAs of the European Union.
