Microsoft doesn’t give up: now it’s the turn of a pop-up inviting you to use Bing

In recent days the news has spread according to which Microsoft, through the lock screen of Windows 11, has tried to convince users to use Copilot. However, after some complaints from users, the company backtracked by removing the advertising. Now, however, Microsoft is back “on the attack”, with a pop-up this time focused on Bing equipped with GPT-4.

Going into details, several users of Chrome they would have seen some pop-up notifications through which Microsoft invited them to set Bing as their default search engine. Specifically, the company would highlight the potential of GPT-4. If the user accepts the invitation, their default search settings will be linked to the search engine and, in addition, the Bing Search Chrome extension will also be installed on the PC.

Among other things, once the default search engine has been changed, Chrome will ask the user to go back, while Microsoft will display the following warning: “Wait – don’t change it again! If you do, you will disable Microsoft Bing Search for Chrome and lose access to Bing AI with GPT-4 and DALL-E 3.” In this regard, Microsoft, joined by WindowsLatest, confirmed the existence of the pop-up, but trying to minimize everything:

This is a one-time notification that gives people the option to set Bing as the default search engine on Chrome. We try to provide our customers with choice, so there is an option to reject the notification.”
