Nowadays it is almost inevitable to meet again overwhelmed by notifications (here is our guide to disabling push notifications on every smartphone) but in some cases these can reveal themselves particularly useful. In this regard, today we are talking to you about a feature for your Android smartphone that perhaps you were not aware of: Sound notifications.

When activated, this feature allows the phone to constantly monitor sounds in the environment surrounding area and, if it detects anything, show a notification. In this way it is possible to keep better control of what happens in your home, above all when you isolate yourself with headphones (perhaps also activating noise cancellation) and for example the smoke detector alarm goes off or they ring the doorbell. Let’s see how to try this feature.

How to activate Sound Notifications

First of all check that you have among the toggles of the smartphone ”Sound notifications”or go to Settings > Accessibility > Sound Notifications.

Owners of a Google smartphone will have this feature already installed. If it is not present, downloaded from the Play Store the Instant Transcription application. Once obtained, click on Activate and give permission to use notifications and the microphone.

Once you have passed the demo with different scenarios, you can activate and deactivate the function as you wish. From the settings you will also have the possibility to turn off certain types of sounds or alarms, including: Smoke and Fire Alarms, Siren, Baby Sounds, Dog Barking, Doorbell Sound, Knock, Appliances, Landline Ringing and Running Water. The settings also allow you to add custom sounds and change the notification mode.

The most important ”con” to take into consideration is that, by using the microphone continuously, this function will impact autonomy of the smartphone. With regard to privacythe application specifies that background audio and conversations will not be sent to Google unless the user decides to send feedback on the audio quality.
