For owners of an Android smartphone, with the need for connect the device to your car, Android Auto represents one of the most widespread solutions on the market (here is our guide on how to use Android Auto on a second machine).

The latest update available introduces an interesting feature for the interface customizationallowing the user to ”copy” to Android Auto the same wallpaper set on your smartphone. This function is activated default but it can clearly be disabled through settings.

We had already started talking about this function last October and according to 9To5Google it seems be available regardless by the app version. In this case reference was made to the latest beta of Android Auto 11.0, although the dedicated code it was already found in version 10.7.

Wallpaper synchronization is clearly very simple but has some limitations. First the image appears to only be available as a wallpaper for the app drawer, not being displayed behind the dashboard or in other sections.

Furthermore animated wallpapers cannot be set. The chosen image must therefore necessarily be a static imagealso excluding AI backgrounds generated with the google pixel 8 series. The reason for this limitation is not yet clear but in any case, when an unsupported wallpaper is selected, Android Auto will show the latest compatible image set.
