Sooner or later it happens to everyone: you realize that you have accumulated too many files and that it’s time to free up space on your Mac. apple‘s operating system already includes an excellent tool for cleaning (trying Space in Settings, and then clicking on the i next to each file category) and there are several cleaning programs available, but GrandPerspective is a software that will help you identify what really needs to be deleted.
After performing a scan (on a specific folder, or on the entire disk) GrandPerspective shows a screen like the one you can see below, where the size of the rectangles is proportional to the weight occupied: in this way, it is immediately clear what the files that take up more space, and it’s easy to understand which ones would be more useful to delete.
In the bottom line you will find the path (with name) of the file and the space occupied, at the top various tools, including the one to quickly open the highlighted file or folder, search for a file (by name or extension) or to change the focus (looking at the information for the individual file, the folder containing it, the parent folder, etc – useful for seeing when it occupies not only the individual file but also the relevant folder).
