iOS 17.4 also brings news for CarPlay: those who have two screens in their car will be happy
Apple recently released iOS 17.4, which arrived with a series of interesting new features. And among these we find updates that also concern CarPlay, the popular infotainment system from the Cupertino company.
The update to iOS 17.4 proved to be particularly interesting because it introduced all of Apple’s innovations for adaptation to the DMA which came into force in Europe. But it’s not just about adaptations to the new regulations, in the update some new features have also arrived which also concern the map display in CarPlay.
As you can see from the two Images in the gallery, maps in CarPlay now allow a view according to two methods which can be easily personalized. The first viewing mode corresponds to that from the point of view of the user, i.e at street level to go through. This is the view that is perhaps most useful to look at when you are actually driving and are undecided about which turn to take.
The second mode instead corresponds to aerial view of the road you are traveling on.
This view could instead prove more useful when you want to realize how far you have reached with respect to the total journey.
For cars that offer a double screenlike the one in the photo, the new CarPlay update allows you to choose where to view the two modes on the map. It will in fact be possible to assign the aerial view to the screen behind the wheeland the road one at main screen central, and vice versa obviously.
For cars that offer only one screen, it will be possible to choose whether to display the aerial or street view. It will not be possible to have both map display modes coexist on the same screen.
The novelty will be available on CarPlay for all those who have updated their iPhone to iOS 17.4. The update distribution is underway globally and should be completed within the next few days.
