Nothing Phone (2a) arrives to destabilize the mid-range: unique, simple, fast, all at an excellent price
Finally Nothing has revealed all the details on its new smartphone, Nothing Phone (2a), arriving very soon in Italy. At this point we have been testing it thoroughly for several days, so much so that you can already read our full review here. It is not an evolution of the Phone (2), on the contrary, the price range is decidedly different. The brand managers described it to us as an upgrade of Phone (1), but it’s not called (1a) because it still has many points in common with the 2. Let’s first see the technical specifications.

The spec sheet is quite eloquent, but there is still something to be said about it.
For starters, Nothing Phone (2a) is the only one to have a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro SoC. Nothing has in fact collaborated with MediaTek to optimize the processor in question to the maximum, in order to improve autonomy, fluidity and general performance, leading to the creation of this Pro variant. The reason for the presence of a MediaTek SoC instead of a Qualcomm one has been explained by Nothing herself in a video. Among other things, it has to do with the construction process.
The back is divided into two sections: the upper one which houses the circular camera bump and Nothing’s typical Glyph Interface, although with a little less LEDs than usual to keep the price within “humane” thresholds. The part below is partly inspired by Massimo Vignelli’s New York subway map. The whole thing is protected by high quality polycarbonate. There’s no glass, and there’s no wireless charging either.
Given its size and weight, it certainly cannot be defined as compact, on the contrary, but at least you will have a nice large and bright display at your disposal, powered among other things by a 5,000 mAh battery.
Special attention is also paid to sustainability: for the Nothing Phone (2a) 100% recycled aluminum was used for the frame, 100% tin was used for 7 of the printed circuits on board, 100% copper was used for the main board, recycled steel for 22 components and over 50% recycled plastic for the entire smartphone.
As for updates, Nothing guarantees 3 years of major updates and 4 years of security patches.
