When it comes to smartwatches, especially in reference to Wear OS in recent years, Samsung continues to be one of the most important companies in this market (here is our guide on how to train with the Galaxy Watch).

The South Korean giant made its debut further ten years ago presenting the Samsung Galaxy Gear: a device from design squared, which we will then see repeated in the subsequent Gear 2 and Gear Live. After this parenthesis, Samsung decided to change course and definitively embrace the circular design for its future smartwatches. In fact, until the recent Galaxy Watch 6, we no longer had any upheavals on the design side but things could change with an unexpected back to the origins.

According to what reported by SamMobile, Samsung is considering the idea of doing so return to square shapes in his smartwatches. The idea would have been ”welcomed with enthusiasm” within the company, thus suggesting ahigh probability that this change materialize.

It is absolutely unclear at the moment whether Samsung will decide to make a such a drastic change already with the next Watch 7 or if we have to wait at least another year.

It will certainly be interesting to understand what will eventually change at the level of interfacegiven that most of the applications and Samsung’s One UI itself were designed for circular layouts. Furthermore, there is obviously to take into consideration the opinion of users who had already shown themselves divided on the removal of the iconic rotating bezel (later reintroduced on the latest Watch 6 Classic) and may not fully appreciate ”an approach” to the style of the Apple Watch.
