Scams also travel on Google Photos, and they are really sneaky!
We are now all too used to scams via SMS, WhatsApp / Telegram, Facebook, Instagram… in fact the list is long! However, there is one app that doesn’t immediately come to mind when you talk about scams: Google Photos. Yet this service also hides its risks.
As they reported to us in our Facebook group, there is in fact a very sneaky way to exploit Google Photos to send scam messages. In fact, the bad guys add the email of potential victims to a shared album on Google Photos, and then they can message all the participants at will, with a notification arriving with the Google Photos label in the header, and therefore it may seem like a legitimate thing in the eyes of a non-expert user.
You who read us you would hardly fall for it, but the idea behind these attempts is always to cast as wide a net as possible, in which, due to the law of large numbers, sooner or later someone will take the bait. In general the universal rule is always the same: to doubt.
And what could be written in these messages? Of everything, maybe even in English and not necessarily in Italian. In the example below the account cancellation, for example. Obviously the user can avoid all this by clicking on an appropriate link, which is precisely what the attackers in question are hoping for.
Do you feel safe because no one has your email? Allow us to doubt it, because emails are one of the most stolen things on the internet (along with passwords). If you don’t believe us, try verifying your email address on this site!
