It’s not you: one of the most envied features of Xiaomi phones has been removed

With the passing of YouTube Vanced, there was only one way (minus a few tricks) to listen to YouTube with the screen off without subscribing to YouTube Premium: buy a phone Xiaomi (by the way, do you know how it works and what the advantages of YouTube Premium are?).

The brand’s devices indeed offered for free this function is reserved for subscribers of the service from MIUI 12, and things must not have gone down too well with Google anymore. Proof? A few days ago, with a statement on Telegram channel Mi Fans, it has been announced that the latest update of MIUI And HyperOS will deactivate this possibility.

The post, shared on March 7indicates how features have been removed “Play video audio with the screen off” in the Video toolbox And “Turn off the screen” in the Game toolbox.

Together with the post, Xiaomi also listed the Xiaomi devices affected by the news, practically everyone, both old and new, including Xiaomi 1413, 13 Pro and 12T, among others.

All devices running HyperOS, MIUI 14, MIUI 13 and MIUI 12 are affected, and will no longer have the functionality after being updated.

But why this decision on the part of Xiaomi? The company itself explains it, stating that the change is due to the “compliance requirements”which means that Google (and probably other content distributors) lobbied because removed there functionality.

Xiaomi explains:

Due to compliance requirements, we regret to inform you that we have removed the “Play video audio with screen off” feature in the Video toolbox feature and the “Turn off screen” feature in the Game toolbox feature via Over-The-Day updates. Air (OTA).
